Yesterday a very good soprano friend of mine who was due to fly out to Colombo in Sri Lanka to meet Minerva on 27th February phoned to say she had to pull out and could I take her place. Of course I jumped at the opportunity and said yes straight away. It is only 7 weeks since I myself flew back from Colombo after an amazing 2 weeks cruising the Arabian sea on board Minnie (as I like to call her!). Sadly I had some issues getting a visa and so was unable to get off the ship in India. This was very disappointing but I am so grateful that I will have the opportunity to go back and explore this amazing country. I am looking forward to performing 4 concerts with the fabulous Opera Barcarola and I am hoping to run some workshops with the passengers, teaching them a few chorus pieces from operas that they can perform with us in our final concert. While I am away I hope to keep you all posted on my travels through this blog. So many of you are part of this brilliant adventure I am on at the moment and I want to keep you updated with as much gossip as possible!
The joys of being a freelance musician are these wonderful opportunities we are given and the excitement of not knowing what is around the corner. It makes our job so worthwhile. As well as prepping for the cruise I have 2 auditions to practise for, the Headlines Charity Opera Gala and learning Norina for Don Pasquale. Rehearsals for that start in May! Sadly a cold is brewing so it will be word learning for a couple of days until I feel better. This is one of the perils of being a singer. I must get steaming and eat lots of oranges!!! Until next time dear friends! Georgina xx
